Microbial Imprinting of Early-Life skin monocyte function -

Experiments in this focus area are designed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which commensal microbes influence the function of monocytes and macrophages in neonatal barrier tissues, such as the skin and lungs. Using germ-free mice, commensal bacterial species, and in vivo molecular tools to study monocytes and macrophages, along with immunological techniques, we aim to understand the long-term benefits of this early-life commensal-myeloid crosstalk.

Impact of Neonatal myeloid cells in the developing lung -

Experiments in this focus area are designed to elucidate the mechanisms by which myeloid cells support lung development and the establishment of long-term tissue health. Using unique genetic mouse tools coupled with our expertise in studying lung function, we aim to elucidate how myeloid cells in the neonatal window can prime the tissue for optimal development and prevent the onset of chronic inflammatory disease.

Myeloid biology in cutaneous Staphylococcal infections -

Experiments in this area focus on elucidating the role of myeloid immune cells in resolving cutaneous Staphylococcus aureus infections. Using multiomic approaches coupled with traditional immunology assays, we are excited to uncover novel biology of myeloid cells during active infection with this bacterial pathogen.
